Central Otago Wines

The Central Otago wine region (at latitude 45° south) is the most southern wine growing region in the world.

The Otago vineyards are also the highest of the New Zealand plantings at around 200-400m above sea level. Geographically, Central Otago is a sheltered inland area with a continental microclimate and typically experiences dry, hot summers, cool autumns and cold, crisp winters.

In conjunction with the New Zealand Winegrowers Association, Central Otago is in the process of applying for a geographic indication for wines grown in the area.
